The Smithson Endowment Fund

Advocating for women’s reproductive rights.

The Smithson Endowment Fund was established to honor our Founder, Rosemary Smithson. This is the latest fund established by the Women in Politics Foundation. The mission of the fund is to advocate for women's reproductive rights and health care, in keeping with Rosemary's role as a fierce advocate for women's equal rights, especially the right to control our own bodies.

The Education and Endowment Fund

Since it's inception in 2000, the Endowment and Education Fund (EEF) has sponsored educational projects within the Greater Kansas City metro region. Donations to the EEF remain in the fund with only the interest spent. Five percent of the fund's total on December 31 is granted annually. Projects sponsored by the EEF include:

  • Campaign schools for potential candidates

  • Voter registration drives and "Get Out the Vote" campaigns

  • Legislative and issues education for the public

The Hurlbut Fund

The Hurlbut Fund was launched in 2007 to honor the dear friend and outstanding feminist, Biddy Hurlbut.  Organizations based throughout Kansas and Missouri may request funding to promote women's political equality. Projects funded include:

  • Leadership programs for girls

  • Voter registration project

  • Support for organizations training progressive candidates in rural areas.
